Join your fellow Members, on Saturday 19th October, for a fascinating tour of Avery’s Cellar, organised by our WAG Members. The tour, led by Club Member Mimi Avery, the experience includes an exclusive wine tasting, followed by lunch at Montebello, a family run Italian restaurant on Park Street.
Avery’s journey began in 1793, but it was in the 1920s, under Ronald Avery’s leadership, that the business truly flourished. Ronald’s pioneering approach of personally visiting winemakers worldwide fostered close relationships that set Avery’s apart and continue to shape its success today.
Ronald was an early advocate for right-bank claret and was the first to list Petrus, Bordeaux’s now most coveted wine—though ironically, it went unsold at the time! His son, John, followed in his footsteps, expanding the business in remarkable ways. From introducing Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley’s first cult wine, to the UK in 1964, to importing Penfolds Grange from Australia and New Zealand’s first commercial wines, John’s forward-thinking vision transformed the company.
Now in its fifth generation, Mimi Avery is carrying the torch, exploring new horizons and unearthing unique wines from around the world.
