Club Talk- Eating Disorders: ‘Hidden in plain sight’ with Hope Virgo

3rd October 2024 - 18:00 to 19:00
Join us for an insightful and impactful Club talk on Thursday 3rd October at 6pm, featuring the inspiring Hope Virgo, an Author and Multi Award-Winning Mental Health Campaigner and Public Speaker. As highlighted by sports presenter Jeff Stelling, eating disorders claim more lives each year than any other mental illness, yet they continue to be overlooked by government policies and funding.

Hope Virgo is an internationally recognised advocate for individuals with eating disorders. Through her powerful personal story, Hope sheds light on the mental health crisis affecting millions, and the urgent need for better support and treatment. She is the founder of the #DumpTheScales campaign, which has successfully brought eating disorders to the forefront of government discussions, and has been a tireless campaigner for change, including hosting the UK’s first-ever eating disorder march in 2023.

Hope’s journey from being on the brink of death due to anorexia, to becoming a leading voice for mental health reform, is nothing short of remarkable. Her efforts have taken her to Number 10 Downing Street multiple times, where she continues to push for better access to treatment and adequate funding for eating disorders. This talk will give you a chance to hear firsthand about her struggles, recovery, and ongoing fight to ensure that no one with an eating disorder is ever deemed “untreatable.”

This is an illness that affects people of all ages, sizes, genders, and ethnicities, and is one that could impact those closest to you—your children, grandchildren, friends, and family. Hope’s candid account offers valuable insights and highlights the urgent need to address the stigma surrounding eating disorders.

The talk is just £5 per person for members and will conclude in time for our Thursday Club Draw.
