Not afraid to speak his mind, George is an Architect, RIBA Past President (2003/5) and first elected Mayor of Bristol (Nov 2012/16). From his Bristol based practice Ferguson Mann he founded the UK wide group of architects, Acanthus, and was a founder of the London based Academy of Urbanism. He saved and developed the ‘Tobacco Factory’ in Bristol, a catalyst for the regeneration of South Bristol and a model for culture led mixed use regeneration. He is also a lecturer, broadcaster, restaurateur, theatre proprietor, micro-brewer and micro-farmer. He was awarded a CBE in 2010 and has honorary degrees from the Universities of Bristol and the West of England.
