Mr Partha Sarangi MD FRCS (Orth) was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in 1995 having graduated from the University of Manchester in 1984 and completing his surgical training in hospitals in Manchester, Leicester, Cardiff and Bristol.
Partha is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh & England and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine by the University of Bristol based on his research on osteoporosis and fractures.
Following his consultant appointment Partha attended the Hospital of Special Surgery in New York for a further period of training in aspects of shoulder surgery and on returning to Bristol he was instrumental in developing shoulder surgery locally and responsible for the training of many consultant shoulder surgeons working in the UK and internationally.
Partha continues to practice within the NHS in Bristol as well as undertaking private practice. He sees upwards of 1000 new referrals a year and performs 400 shoulder operations, many of which are tertiary referrals from other centres in the United Kingdom.
Partha has extensive experience in shoulder replacement surgery and was one of the first in the United Kingdom to employ reverse shoulder replacements despite considerable resistance from the orthopaedic establishment at the time. Reverse shoulder replacements are now the most common type of shoulder replacements undertaken in the world.
