Speakers Brunch with Dave Talbot ‘Old School Law: Policing in the 1970’s’

11th January 2025 - 11:00 to 14:00

Kick start your 2025 with a very special Speakers Brunch on Saturday 11th January with Club Member, Dave Talbot as he transports you back in time to his life as a young police officer in the 1970’s.

Dave’s impressive 50+ years working within the Police Family started when he joined Thames Valley Police in 1973 as a cadet aged just 16. Dave served for 25 years in the Thames Valley and North Yorkshire.

When Dave first joined in 1973 there were no computers used within UK policing. By the end of the decade digital policing had started to arrive.

In 1979 Dave was one of the first officers in the UK to solve a crime using a computer, a success that subsequently led to him completing a degree in computer science.

After 25 years’ service and having reached the rank of Inspector Dave decided to point his career in a different direction and for the past 26 years has worked as an Information Technology Specialist & Consultant, still working in the Police Community a roll he still fulfils to this day.

Dave’s talk will include tales of his unusual and unconventional contact with senior members of the Royal Family.

His talk will be full of anecdotes including hilarious moments, moments of desperate sadness and tragedy and a moment of terror when, completely unarmed, he was confronted by two bank robbers armed with sawn off shotguns.

This talk is complimentary for members and their guests starting at 11am, brunch will be served at 12pm for those wanting to dine which is costed as per our brunch menu.

To book this interesting talk, please book online or contact the Club office on reservations@thecliftonclub.co.uk or call 0117 974 5039.
