Educated in Devon, Andrew Banks came to Bristol University in 1997 to read law and went on to practice as a commercial solicitor at Osborne Clarke. In 2006, he embarked on a dramatic career change by joining the family business, Alfaholics, which specialises in Alfa Romeos of the 1960s and 1970s. Having grown up surrounded by Alfas, Ferraris and Maseratis, it was perhaps inevitable that he would end up indulging his passion for cars. Andrew now runs the business alongside his brother, Max, and together they have grown Alfaholics from a small operation in a single garage on Exmoor to an internationally recognised player in the classic car industry, and a leading authority on Alfa Romeo.
Today, Alfaholics is based in Clevedon, employing 12 people and supplying a wide range of restoration and performance parts to owners of classic Alfa Romeos all over the world, as well as carrying out top quality restorations and race preparation.
Andrew is also a keen racing driver. He began racing karts while at school, before going on to compete in the Castle Combe Formula Ford Championship during his university days. He now competes in the European pre-1966 Under 2 litre Touring Car Championship (U2TC) with an Alfa Romeo GTA and in the FIA Historic Sports Car Championship with a McLaren M6B. He and Max were crowned U2TC champions in 2017.
